Our Transition Programs

At Illawong Public School, we are commited to supporting high quality Kindergarten Transition programs.

Teddy Bear Picnic - Term 2

Our Teddy Bear Picnic is a yearly event where students are welcomed onto our grounds to have a picnic and play games with our current kindergarten students, their families, and our Play Pals. Our Play Pals are students who have nominated themselves to support our younger years on the playground and will quickly form important and lasting bonds with our kindergarten students.

Hobart Early Education Centre - Term 2

We are regular collahorators with our local day cares and pre-schools. On Book Week, our student leaders visit Hobart Place in their costumes and read their favourite books. In previous years we have had koalas, princesses and fairies read books and form connections with students soon to be attending Illawong Public School.

N.A.B.S. Program - Term 3

Our N.A.B.S. (Nearly At Big School) progam is a comprehensive transition program that involves over 6 hours of time at school, leading to an increased familiarity and feeling of safety with our site, facilities, teachers and peers. In this program students:

- Build a sense of belonging,

- Become familiar with our classes and programs,

- Meet and form connections with their soon-to-be classmates.

Orienation Days - Term 4

Our orientation days are carefully designed for both students and teachers to feel ready to begin school. While students are engaging in classroom activities with kindergarten teachers, our parents and caregivers will attend information sesisons with the Assistant Principal, Principal and Assistant Principal (Curriculum Instruction). Topics covered includes uniforms, canteen, before and after school care, curriuclum, playground, homework and more. These sessions are another important milestone towards our families feeling prepared and ready for school.
