Testimonials from our community
Choosing a school for our children was a big decision, and after exploring many options, Ilawong Public School truly stood out. From the very beginning, our experience has been nothing short of amazing. The teachers are incredibly supportive and genuinely care about every child — they know all the students by name, which creates such a warm and welcoming environment.
The smaller class sizes make a real difference, allowing for personalised teaching and ensuring no child gets left behind. We’ve felt so reassured by the way the staff go above and beyond to support each student’s individual needs, creating an inclusive and nurturing space for all.
The school grounds are beautiful, and the sense of community is just as special — friendly, connected, and supportive. We feel very grateful to be part of such a wonderful school community.
Our Transition Programs
At Illawong Public School, we are commited to supporting high quality Kindergarten Transition programs.
Teddy Bear Picnic - Term 2
Our Teddy Bear Picnic is a much-loved annual event where prospective students are welcomed onto our grounds to enjoy a picnic and play games alongside our current kindergarten students, their families, and our Play Pals. Play Pals are students who have volunteered to support our younger years on the playground, and they quickly form warm, lasting bonds with our kindergarten children.
Hobart Early Education Centre - Term 2
We work closely with our local daycares and preschools throughout the year. During Book Week, our student leaders visit Hobart Place in costume to share their favourite stories. In past years, koalas, princesses, and fairies have read aloud and formed early connections with children soon to join the Illawong Public School community.
N.A.B.S. Program - Term 3
Our N.A.B.S. (Nearly At Big School) program is a thoughtful, comprehensive transition experience that brings children onto our grounds for more than six hours before they start school. This time allows them to settle in, build confidence, and develop a real sense of safety and belonging with our facilities, teachers, and future classmates well before their first day. Through the program, students:
- Develop a genuine sense of belonging within our school community
- Become comfortable and familiar with our classrooms, routines, and programs
- Meet and form early friendships with their soon-to-be classmates
Orienation Days - Term 4
Our orientation days are carefully designed to help both students and teachers feel ready for the year ahead. While children take part in classroom activities with our kindergarten teachers, parents and caregivers attend information sessions led by the Principal, Assistant Principal, and Assistant Principal (Curriculum and Instruction). These sessions cover everything from uniforms, the canteen, and before and after school care to curriculum, the playground, homework, and more.
